Masseria Spina Piccola (small) and Spina Grande (big) are rural structures linked to different typological styles. Masseria Spina Piccola is a tower-masseria from the XVI century and has an obvious defensive function as evidenced by the embrasures and the tower decorated with corbels. Beyond the thick fence wall, a staircase leads to a stone bridge used in the past as a drawbridge. A natural moat separates the defense tower from Spina Grande, an elegant example of a villa-masseria, built in the XVII century.
Built on three floors, the ground floor was once used as stables, the house of the settler (tenant farmer) was located on the first floor and on the last floor was the masterís residence.
The beautiful double staircase and the loggia, with three arches, were built in the eighteenth century. Further on, enclosed by the large paved courtyard, one finds the sheep pen, the stables, the chapel with late baroque motifs and the olive mill from the XVI century, all rising from the transformation of rocky settings located along the moat.
